Cookie Policy

Short version
This site sets no cookies unless you allow analytics. Nothing Google-related loads until you choose. Decline, and no analytics cookie is ever set. There are no advertising pixels and no third-party trackers either way.
The decoder
The notation decoder runs in your browser. What you type stays on your device: it is not sent to a server, not stored, and not written to your browser's storage. That is true whether or not you allow analytics.
Analytics — only if you agree
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and tools get used. It is blocked until you consent: the tag is not loaded, and no request is made to Google, until you choose Allow analytics. If you decline, nothing loads and nothing is set.
If you allow it, these cookies are set:
- _ga — distinguishes browsers. Expires after 2 years.
- _ga_VZPFXNF4F8 — keeps session state for this property. Expires after 2 years.
We disable Google Signals and ad personalisation on this property, and IP addresses are anonymised. Measurement records aggregate usage only — which pages are viewed and whether the decoder produced a result, a two-reading result, or no result. The expressions you type are never sent, in any form. That is enforced in code by an event-name allowlist plus a fixed list of permitted values, not by policy alone.
Remembering your choice
Your answer to the analytics question is stored in your browser's local storage under toothnotation:consent. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and it exists only so you are not asked again on every page. You can clear it in your browser at any time and you will simply be asked again.
Hosting measurement
Our host, Cloudflare, collects aggregate page-performance data for sites served this way. It is cookieless and does not identify you. We keep it because it measures the visitors who decline Google Analytics, which is exactly the group analytics cannot see.
The contact form
If you open the contact page, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that submissions are not automated. Turnstile is loaded from Cloudflare and may set a token or use similar storage strictly to perform that check. This is a security measure necessary to provide the form you asked to use, not tracking, and it is not used to profile you or to advertise. If you never open the contact page, Turnstile never loads.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information to deliver pages and protect the service. This is necessary for the site to work.
Changing your mind
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Clearing this site's local storage makes the analytics question appear again, so you can answer it differently. Declining costs you nothing: the decoder, the chart and every reference page work identically either way.
